Let’s create a kinder & more understanding community, where we not only accept those with Autism but learn from them. Not just in April, but every month of the year!

What is Autism Awareness Month?

Each individual has their own characteristics. Many people do not understand what autism is and how to interact with people on the spectrum.

Raising awareness helps people understand, accept and embrace people with autism for their differences. Our goal is to inform as many people as possible about what makes people with autism so special. Will you help us?

Let’s spread the word!

During Autism Awareness Month (April) and Autism Awareness Day (April 2nd), we must reaffirm our commitment to equality and inclusion. Together, we can promote the full participation and raise awareness of autism. The involvement of families and friends are essential to help us spread the word.

We ask for your commitment to help through the month of April. It’s time to take action and make the rest of the world understand what it means to be autistic, have an exceptionality, and how it can be a gift!

The best way to support, and spread the word in Autism Awareness Month is to take action! We encourage you to share any of the videos, articles, or images on this page with your network. Let’s get the word out!

Save… then share!

Hiring people with autism & other exceptionalities

People with autism can have strengths that are beneficial to employers. These include tenacity, attention to detail, and the ability to see things in a new light, or problem-solve in a different way.

Why hire people with autism?

People with autism can have strengths that are beneficial to employers. These include tenacity, attention to detail, and the ability to see things in a new light, or problem-solve in a different way.

However many people with autism that are conducting their job search run into problems when looking for work.

Many have discovered that work environments and people in those environments aren’t set up to be autism-friendly, therefore increasing nervousness and the likelihood that they won’t do well in the interview process or at the job itself.

Without the right support, the work environment can be confusing. Sometimes everything can become overwhelming – from the noises of clattering keyboards or ringing phones to the unspoken social rules of work life. Or, getting bombarded with questions during the interview process. It can feel like information overload.

Here is why it is worth it to employers to make their workplace autism-friendly, how hiring people with autism can be beneficial, and different types of work that people with autism are known to be skilled in.

How PS prepares students for life beyond school

ps-academy-arizona-transition-program.jpg.jpg

Transition program

We understand the importance of preparation for the future. That’s why we have created a transition program, designed for students 16 and older. It is based on each student’s individual needs, strengths, skills and interests.

The program teaches independent living, functional and vocational skills. Program curriculum and activities include caring for self and home, money management, health care and self-advocacy, social skills in the workplace and career/vocational exploration and placement. The goal of the Transition Program is for students to identify, develop, and implement a plan to meet post-high school goals.

Are you ready for autism awareness month?

Welcome to April!

April means different things for different people. For some, it’s the official start of spring. Others are just waiting on those April showers to bring May flowers.

The pranksters of the world have had April 1st circled for quite some time.

For us here at PS Academy, April means one thing: Autism Awareness.

April is Autism Awareness Month and April 2nd is Autism Awareness Day, so you can see why we love the month of April so much.

But just what is Autism Awareness Month and Autism Awareness Day?

Did you know that 31% of people with exceptionalities are employed, and the majority of those who are not employed – are highly motivated to work?
